Cody is Sourcegraph's AI coding assistant, and its core advantage comes from Sourcegraph's underlying code-search engine: rather than only seeing the open file or a small local window, Cody can pull relevant context from across an entire organization's codebase — including multiple repositories — when answering questions or generating code. It supports chat, autocomplete, and predefined "commands" (explain code, generate tests, fix errors) inside VS Code and JetBrains IDEs, and lets teams choose which underlying model (Claude, GPT, Gemini) powers responses. As of mid-2025, Sourcegraph discontinued the Cody Free and Pro tiers entirely — Cody is now an Enterprise-only product priced from $59/user/month on an annual contract, with typical team contracts starting around $16,000. The full cross-repo context advantage is most apparent in larger organizations already using or willing to set up Sourcegraph; individual developers and small teams should look at other IDE assistants instead.
